During daily strides of 35-45 kilometer from Slettestrand to Skagen, you will hike through beautiful coastlines and impressive nature, among which is Raabjerg Mile, the largest moving sand dune of Denmark.
This demanding route is ideal for the experienced hiker requiring both adventure and nature experience.
During the hike you will spend the nights on intriguing hotels like Kallehavegaard Seaside Hotel, Montra Skaga Hotel, and Color Hotel Skagen. Altogether an unforgettable journey of app. 120 km challenging both your body and soul.

DAY 1: SLETTESTRAND - LØKKEN
- Point of departure: Rønnes Hotel
- Distance: 35-43 km
- Overnight stay: Kallehavegaard Seaside hotel
The point of departure for your hike is Rønnes Hotel in Slettestrand, where you will park your car, pack your backpack, and tie your hiking boots. From this point you will set off along the coastline where you will be met by lavish nature and amazing experiences.
If you choose to hike along the beach from Slettestrand to Løkken, you can shorten the route to app. 35 km. Alternatively, if you choose the trails through the sand dune moors of Tranum and Blokhus you will have hiked around 43 km by the time you reach Løkken.
Be aware that the Danish Maritime Authorities conduct military exercises on Tranum Beach on certain dates. On these occations you must follow the trail towards Tranum Klitplantage, since hiking along the beach will not be possible.
After af hopefully great first day in hiking boots you will stay the first night at Kallehavegaard Badehotel, an intriguing and gorgeous seaside hotel, in the town of Løkken.
The seaside hotel was built in 1902 and has been used as such ever since. It is located app. 10 minutes walk from the town centre of Løkken, only 500 meter from the beautiful beach. You may enjoy dinner in the restaurant of the hotel on selected days during the summer. Should you wish to pamper yourself you may visit the hotel’s wellness department with sauna, spa, and coldwater basin (for an additional fee).

DAY 2: LØKKEN - HIRTSHALS
- Distance: 36 km
- Overnight stay: Montra Skaga Hotel in Hirtshals
The second day of the hike covers the distance from Løkken to Hirtshals. There are many opportunities for having a break by some of the most beautiful spots on the coast. For instance, take a welldeserved break at Rubjerg Knude, the greatest tourist attraction in North Jutland, whose lighthouse now stands on the edge of the moving sand dune. You will also pass Lønstrup, Skallerup Klit, Tornby Klitplantage, as well as Hirtshals Bunkermuseum and Lighthouse. Here is scope for experiencing lovely coastal villages, charming trails, dense plantations, and the most magnificent view from the top of the cliffs.
When arriving to Hirtshals in the afternoon or evening you will check into the 4-star Montra Skaga Hotel where your second overnight stay awaits. The hotel is centrally situated, hence just a short walk from the harbour and local attractions. In the cozy restaurant of the hotel you may enjoy a delicious meal and taste some classic Danish dishes while relaxing in the comfortable surroundings.

DAY 3: HIRTSHALS - SKAGEN
- Distance: 45 km
- Overnight stay: Color Hotel Skagen
On the third and most strenuous day of your hike you will walk app. 45 km, the majority of which will be along the beach. Here you can rest your mind and let your feet do the hard work. After a long demanding day in your hiking boots you can look forward to your last overnight stay which takes place in the 4-star Color Hotel Skagen.
At this lovely hotel you may chill in the outdoor spa, dip into the heated pool, enjoy the covered patio, or use the indoor sauna. You may also spend some time going sightseeing in Skagen, the most northern place in Denmark.
In the evening you may pamper your tastebuds with a delicious a la carte menu at Restaurant Holger in the hotel, hence completing your holiday in the best imaginable way.

DAY 4: SKAGEN
- Distance: The number of km you will be walking this day is entirely up to you
- Pick-up: Color Hotel Skagen
On this final day of your hiking holiday, the distance you walk and how much you feel like investigating Skagen is up to you. After the toughest stage the day before you may feel like resting your legs and relaxing at Color Hotel Skagen. Alternatively, you may go sightseeing in the most northern town of Denmark, provided you still have any energy left.
At 2:00 pm, you will be picked up by our minibus in front of Color Hotel Skagen, from where you will be transported back to the starting point in Slettestrand. The bus ride will take app. 2 1/2 hours. Your are welcome to bring beverages on the bus.

LEVEL
This hiking holiday is without a doubt the toughest og most demanding trip. It is important that you are already used to walking 30-40 km a day, several days in a row since you will be met with similar daily distances here in a diverse terrain.

A good start of the day is important on this active holiday, hence the breakfast buffet at the hotels are included. Lunch and dinner is at your own disposal, so you can choose to eat when and where you want during the hikes and in the evening. To make this easy for you we will provide you with a food guide, which gives you an overview of the best places to eat on the route from Slettestrand to Skagen.
