Experience Denmark’s largest wilderness, the country’s first national park, and Europe’s largest dune heath from the saddle of your bike. The New York Times even recommended National Park Thy as a travel destination in 2022 – so we are not the only ones being crazy about this beautiful area.
Our biking holiday in National Park Thy offers adventurous experiences, grand nature, and the freedom to cycle at your own pace. The daily stretches are 35-50 km on the route from Thorsminde to Vigsø. With lovely overnight stays in Hotel Tante in Lemvig, Seaside Hotel in Thyborøn, and Hotel Havbadet in Nørre Vorupør, all you have to do is concentrate on pushing the pedals and enjoy the ride – we will take care of the rest.

DAY 1: THORSMINDE - LEMVIG

Your biking holiday starts in the morning at Thorsminde Outdoor shop, where you get on the bike and head off on a beautiful trip.
On the way, you will pass the iconic Bovbjerg Lighthouse – a grand experience waiting for you at the end of the beauttiful bike path by Trans Church. You may enjoy the magnificent view from the lighthouse and the cliff, being popular excursion destinations for both Danes and tourists.
Your first night of the holiday will be spent in Hotel Tante in Lemvig – one of the most charming hotels along the West Coast. The hotel is located right in the heart of the cosy western town of Lemvig. Here you are close to the harbour, the pedestrian street, charming restaurants, intriguing shops and much more.
In your spacious, contempory hotelroom you can enjoy a good night’s sleep and wake up well rested for the next day’s bike stretch, which is going to take you towards Thyborøn.

DAY 2: LEMVIG - THYBØRON

On the second day of your holiday, a beautiful and adventurous trip from Lemvig to Thyborøn lies ahead of you. Here in the heart of Western Jutland you will follow the iconic VLTJ railway meandering its way through the landscape, locally known from the popular sang by the Danish music band Tørfisk (Turbots, inspired by their dry sense of humour and the local specialty).
Perhaps you will fancy a friendly race against the train, or perhaps you will prefer to savour the fresh salty sea air and the peaceful atmosphere at your own pace. Do look forward to the charming bike ride between Langerhuse and Thyborøn, which will take you through a picturesque area with a rich bird and wildlife. On the way, you will pass the previous public chemical waste site, nationally know as Høfde 42.
When arriving in Thyborøn, a stay at the beautiful Seaside Hotel awaits you. The hotel is neighbouring the harbour. Here you can rest after the day’s struggles, sense the authentic coastal atmosphere, and enjoy the calm of the sea. Your hotel room is light and welcoming – the perfect place for a welldeserved break from the bike.
DAY 3: THYBORØN - NØRRE VORUPØR

On the third day of your biking holiday, you will be cycling from Thyborøn to Nørre Vorupør – a ride including a lovely little ferry ride from Thyborøn to Agger on board a climate friendly hybrid ferry.
From Agger the bikeride adventure continues through the National Park of Thy, Denmark’s largest wilderness. Here you will meet vast dune heaths, dense pine forests, glassy lakes, a rich wildlife – not to mention Lodbjerg Lighthouse, a true must-see attraction on the tour.
Just before you reach Nørre Vorupør you will pass Stenbjerg Landing Site, where the iconic white tool sheds still stand as a remnent of the coastal fishing’s heydays. In this place the fishermen used to haul their fishing boats ashore and handled thir catch, untilthe 1970’s when the fishing industry moved to Hanstholm. Today, the hauling site is used by anglers who pull their boats ashore by tractor.
Later in the afternoon, you will arrive in Nørre Vorupør, where you will feel the unique ambience of the town immediately.
Here, you will sense the eternal movements of the North Sea – the perfect place to end your biking holiday.
From Hotel Havbadet you can savour the view of the North Sea, pamper yourself with a delicious dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, and let the body relax in a lovey hotel room.
DAY 4: NØRRE VORUPØR - VIGSØ

- Distance: 35 km
On the fourth and last day of your biking holiday you have one more unique opportunity to experience the beautiful nature, Cold Hawaii in Klitmøller, and exciting attractions such as the Bunker Museum in Hanstholm – Norther Europe’s largest fortification from WW2 – while you continue the ride through National Park Thy. Your holiday ends in the scenic surroundings at Vigsø Holiday Centre – this will make you wish the biking holiday would never end.
At 1:30 pm, you will be picked up by our minibus at Vigsø Holiday Centre. From here you will be transported back to the point of departure in Thorsminde, along with bikes and luggage.
The bus ride will take app. 2 hours 30 minutes. Feel free to bring beverages for the drive.
Return transportation to the point of departure
– Pick-up by minibus at Vigsø Holiday Centre at 1:30 pm
– Stopover in i Agger for drop-off/pick-up of other guests.

LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY
Day 1 (Thorsminde - Lemvig):
From Thorsminde to Fjaltring you will be cycling along the main road for app. 10 km, were no bikepath has been established. From here, you will follow small tarmacced roads from Fjaltring toTrans Church for about 4,5 km, until the route continues off a stonepowder path along the cliff towards Bovbjerg Lighthouse.
You will continue off the stonepowder path all the way to Ferring, where the surface will change to gravelroad. From here you will ride towards a summerhouse area North of Ferring. From the summerhouse area to Vandborg you will continue off small country roads for about 4,5 km.
Then you will have a stretch of 3,5 km along the main road to Hove without a bike path. The remaining 5,5 km towards Lemvig consists of 4 km bike path, before the intriguing last 1,5 km takes you through the town of Lemvig, along the harbour, and into the pedestrian street by the church. This is where you will find your first accommodation, Hotel Tante (meaning Auntie's Hotel).
Day 2 (Lemvig - Thyborøn):
Today's ride begins by riding off Strandvejen in Lemvig, where you will continue to follow the sea via the tarmacced bike path towards Gjellerodde. From here you will continue off small tarmacced countryroads to Klinkby an further onto Vejlby Klit (Dune).
Frrom Vejlby Klit you will ride on the tarmacced bike path for the next 4,5 km, before you reach the Southern edge of Harboøre. Shortly before the town you will pass a small lake via a lovely bike path, before arriving to the centre of Harboøre.
From here, the ride continues towards Langerhuse and Thyborøn via a smaill tarmacced mainroad, taking you to a beautiful bike path with a steady surface of stonepowder. You will continue through the beautiful landscape by Harboøre Tange (spit) for app. 10 km. When you arrive to Thyborøn you will ride on the tarmacced dyke towards the harbour where the tarmacced road will take you to the town centre and your accommodation, Seaside Hotel.
Day 3 (Thyborøn - Nørre Vorupør):
From Seaside Hotel to the ferry dock at Sydhavnen (the southern part of the harbour) in Thyborøn, you will briefly be cycling on the main road and minor tarmacced roads around the harbour. On the opposite side of the ferry crossing by AggerTange you will follow the tarmacced bike path for about 8 km, before you turn left off a concrete path toward Agger.
You will follow the concrete path for about 1,8 km, before you reach Aggger, where you will continue off the same path for app. 2,5 km. Then you will turn right to follow the gravelroad all the way to the sign saying “Redningsvej”, where the surface will change to stonepowder on the route to Lodbjerg Lighthouse.
From Lodbjerg Lighthouse you will ride briefly on gravel before continuing on a stonepowder path through the plantation for app. 5 km. Then you will leave the plantation and continue off small tarmacced roads for about 7 km, before you return to the forest and continue on a mixture of gravel roads and forest trails. The last app. 10 km which takes you through Stenbjerg will be on minor tarmacced roads all the way to your last accommodation, Hotel Havbadet ("the sea bath") in Nørre Vorupør.
Day 4 (Nørre Vorupør - Vigsø):
On the last stage of the biking holiday from Nørre Vorupør to Vigsø, you will start on the bike path (tarmac) from the town centre, staying on this bike path for app. 1,2 km. Then you will turn left by Grube Sti and Redningsvej.
You will continue off a stonepowder path, which will change into a tarmacced bike path, for app. 5,5 km, before turning onto a narrow country road by Vangså. Shortly after this the surface changes into gravel which you will follow for a short time, before continuing on a bike path (both stonepowder and tarmac) for app. 3,5 km. From here you will arrive in Klitmøller, where you follow the road out of town (tarmac) for about 1,5 km. You continue off the Coastal Road (Kystvejen) for app. 9 km via the tarmacced and hilly trail until you reach Hanstholm.
In Hanstholm, you will cycle along the harbour off the bike path to follow Kai Lindbergs Gade for about 2 km. Then you turn left and continue on the tarmacced road through an industrial area with large wind mills.
At the end of the tarmacced road the surface changes, firstly to gravel, then onto a bike path of stone powder for app. 6 km to Vigsø Beach. Finally you will turn towards Vigsø Town and follow the small tarmacced road to Vigsø Holiday Centre where your biking holiday ends.

A good start of the day is imperative on a biking holiday, hence breakfast at the hotels are included in the price. As for lunch and dinner, you have the liberty to choose when and wherever suits you best. To make it easy for you we have prepared a food guide providing you with an overview of the best places to eat along the route from Thorsminde to Vigsø.
